Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman ordered the Director General of Social Welfare Directorate to create an organizational structure for the overall development of women of all sections of Bangladesh and to change their condition to reflect national and international commitment to the development of women. In light of this, the National Women Organization was established on February 17, 1976. Later on, on the 4th of May, the National Women Organization was formed in a statutory body, with the law of No 9 on May 4, 1991 to make the organization's activities more fruitful and strengthening.
